final story

Eastview High School held a sing-a-thon last Friday February 20th to help raise money for families who have loved ones with cancer. The event lasted from 7:30 am until midnight. Singers from all over the state came to support a good cause. Many people helped out at this event whether it be singing, running the tables outside of the performing arts center, or showing performers where to go. It all started with the idea of the Women’s Coral and Eastview of helping out family members of those who have cancer. Cancer affects many families each year and the choir department wanted to find a way they could use their talents to help them out. They decided on hosting a sing-a-thon to raise money. MC of the event was former Eastview student Brooke Kilgariff, who also happens to be Miss Twin Cities.
It was an extremely fun event. Tylen Ro, a solo singer at the sing-a-thon, said “It was fun to get out there and sing in front of everyone while helping a good cause. It was something different; it was a different way to raise money while we used our singing talent for something good.”
Not only were the singers using their talents but so was the tech crew for the event. The tech crew gave up their whole day to run this event. They ran the lights and sound for the day. Ernie Russel mentioned that she enjoyed getting out of class to do something worthwhile.
Announcer, Brooke Kilgarriff, used this event not only to raise money for Cancer affected families, but also to help her platform from the Miss America Organization. She asked everyone to sign a petition to keep music education in schools. She said “Music has been such a big part of my life that I want to make sure every kid gets the same opportunity I did with music.” So many people helped out with this event to make it what it was. And they should be proud; it was a rather amazing event to attend thanks to the helpers and singers. This event was a huge success and raise quite bit money for those one have loved ones with cancer.
